OT: Old 3.5 inch floppies become unusable?

If you want it to read single density (FM) disks, the best bet would to find an actual IBM PC/AT floppy controller. I think they took some care with the disk interface so that it would still read SD. The clone cards, or the chipsets they used, didn't guarentee they would work with single density.

Of course it won't read Apple II, (Old) Mac, Commodore, Intel MDS (M2FM), Victor, Northstar, or the old Heath hard sectored disks. Might be useful dealing with some of those strange HP test equipment disks.

Here's the start of their read.me file.

Procomm was better than Telix once? Better VT100 emulation perhaps.
