OT: Lock-Down

Apr 12, 2020 48 Replies

San Francisco is beautiful. The air is crystal clear, the streets are quiet, there's lots of parking in places that were usually impossible. Meter maids are issuing friendly warnings instead of $75 tickets. The people out walking and driving are amazingly nice.

I can take the freeway home from work now that there's so little traffic.

Shopping is a pain. Long lines to get in and lots of stuff not available. We're going to make a big pot of gumbo but there's no anduille sausage anywhere.

Certain annoying friends of a certain person are afraid to leave their houses and pester me.

I guess starting any thread in a discussion group is trolling.

rt I'm pretty unhappy about. I believe they are still providing carry out at restaurants around here. I might go for an order of fish tacos later. I really miss getting eggs for breakfast, but I suppose I could get some fa st food eggs on biscuits or something. I'm getting pretty tired of my own cooking.

s time. That has to be pretty bad. A close friend had just bought a new h ouse and had not yet sold the old one. He blew all his cash on the down pa yment and is now making two mortgage payments. Fortunately he is still wor king, from home I think, and his wife is a teacher who is still getting pai d. I don't know if housing sales is affected yet or not. I told him to ge t out from under the damn thing as quick as he can.

the disease, so we are all staying away other than the friend who brings h im groceries... by leaving them on the porch.

The egg is a tough one. I put a small (1/4 tsp) pat of butter in a cereal b owl, crack the whole egg onto it, sprinkle a little salt, sprinkle a little creole spice mix on top, cover and microwave on high for 50 seconds and it 's done. It's easier than making toast, which I don't do.

For the life of me I can't see the appeal of that andouille. It's tasteless.

Maybe try developing some interests. See if that doesn't help.

Ah, recursion.

Irony doesn't work well in a forum, or even in a email unless the people know one another well.

Oh, I have *lots* of interests, Fred. In that respect at least, I'm probably one of the least affected people of this whole fiasco. Plus thanks to the internet, I'm at liberty to engage with some of the finest minds on the planet - like your good self for example! In fact in the entirety of human history, there's probably never been a better time to be locked-down than right now.

We get pretty good stuff here, but the Aidell's factory must be shut down. The spicing is about right, California-Cajun. When I had a cajun wife in Louisiana and I ate with her family, the sausage was so hot I couldn't eat it. They thought it was funny.

I guess we'll have to do with bacon and chicken and shrimp. Life sucks.

I'm doing serious revs to a 10-layer PC board, and I'm sure fed up with that.

Yeah, but with plenty of leisure time, I've improved a few recipes. The deep fryer takes a half hour (starting with raw potatoes) to produce a nice bunch of french fries, but it's worth the time.

I was not aware that there is no contact tracing going on. I can see that it would be impossible in places like NYC, but in my county the infection count is just 50 total confirmed infections and contact tracing is a huge benefit.

Don't worry, the lock down will be over soon enough and you can return to your dirty, rude, crowded and smelly lifestyle.

Sounds like a total nightmare. I find mere double-sided boards a big enough PITA.

We do that too. You do need to cover it - it will "pop" at least once. But you can reduce the popping by running the tines of a fork through the white a few times before zapping it - it seems to break up some smaller membranes or something.

My brain is pretty good up to 4 layers, if two are planes.

This one wasn't beautiful or strategic to start with. Over 900 parts. I'm doing the high speed placement and routing for rev B, and then I think I'll turn it over to a good contract guy to clean it up.

I've bailed to some extent by putting parts on the bottom. Beats massive relocation or starting from scratch. Manufacturing doesn't much mind parts on the bottom.

PCB layout and coding are fun once in a while, but too much of either wears me out.

Four pulse generator output channels are almost done! That's maybe 25% of the board area. Rev A was wonderful, and then Avago EOLd the critical phemts and NXP eol'd the critical fast PNPs. So I'm starting over with GaN.

Cursitor Doom questions the utility of measures that stop people ending up dead.

Moving profit-making to a lower pitch for few weeks isn't going to ruin a well-run economy.

Cursitor Doom has a rather high opinion of his own output (most of which is pinched from the Daily Mail and Russia Today).

He doesn't like his idiocies getting dumped on and explains the perfectly reasonable reactions in terms of a particularly idiotic conspiracy theory.

Bill Sloman, Sydney

That depends on the nature of the post starting the tread. John Larkin is a gullible twit and can't really discriminate between an actual "recondite, thought-provoking metaphysical conundrums" and the sort of troll-bait that Cursitor Doom posts.

How does that go? it sounds like Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Jasen.
