OT: As if the Virus wasn't enough to worry about!

"The US national debt now exceeds $24.6 trillion. It was just two weeks ago that it hit $24 trillion. We are adding $1 trillion per month to the national debt. That was the size of the entire national debt as late as Oct. 1981. How much longer can this pace continue without a crisis?"

- Peter Schiff

He's right, you know! Here's how it's piling up:

A trillion a month and accelerating. What could possibly go wrong?

If I wanted to build a one-party militarized apartheid white ethno-state under the total authority of a supreme party leader on the American continent I'd probably create the problem and sell the cure

Deficit will easily exceed $4T for FY2020, and they're looking at a similar bust for 2021. The economic slowdown is costing them nearly as much in lost revenue as the giveaways and the damned fool overspending/overbuying of things they don't need.

ar bust for 2021.

he giveaways and the damned fool overspending/overbuying of things they don 't need.

A lot of posting asks the question of how many lives could have been saved if we had mounted an early and effective defense against this disease. I a lso wonder how much less impact it would have had on the economy if the res ponse had been more effective earlier on.

Considering the Federal response, I'm not sure it would have made much diff erence. While we did drag our feet and screw up the testing, the states we re ultimately responsible for enacting stay at home orders and other measur es to slow the spread of the virus.

There was going to be some delay because it takes time for people to proper ly grasp the reality of a new situation like this. It looks like there was also the issue of the problem needing to reach some level of severity befo re people would act. So if the latter were dominant I think we would not b e seeing much difference in the result, just a couple of weeks time differe nce.

It looks to me like the US is doubly screwed mostly because we still are no t taking this seriously. Not completely different from a parent having to extend a child's disciplinary action because the child is still not repenta nt. "No, you stay in that corner until you apologize for real!"

Our new infection rate is climbing again! Maybe it's the result of the ant i-lock down protests?

I'm a bit surprised no one seems to be acknowledging the infection rate con tinuing and not dropping and taking action. Everyone wants to focus on res tarting the economy. What's the point of restarting the economy if we have n't brought down the infection rate???

It's not like it's impossible. Look at the handfuls of countries who have done it.

Must be so sad to live in a country you hate. Perhaps relocating to China or North Korea could prove a good move for him.

If wealthy and middle-class Americans are offered the choice between throwing the elderly and vulnerable under the bus vs. giving up the lifestyle to which they have been accustomed for a significant period of time (e.g. three months) then the majority will agree they should be thrown.

As a Christian nation if that is what's done then it intrinsically implies that it is the will of God.

Unacceptible hypothesis. Unless you quantify the probability, it's totally untestable (and that, in conjunction with the name in the header) indicates another arrogant dismissal in lieu of information. You didn't test the hypothesis, nor can we.

Not trying to make blanket statements here but my intuition would be that variants on the rejoinder "I know you are but what am I" don't speak to a particularly ah, y'know. nuanced understanding of European Enlightenment-era-derived concepts of human rights or personal liberty.

This seems unlikely. Bitrex does satire from time to time, and this looks v ery like it to me.

A desire to satirise a administration that clearly deserves it doesn't impl y any kind of hatred of the country you live in. It's well articulated by t he toast

?My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wro ng, to be set right.?

The US does have a lot of features that need to e set right - not as many a s China, and nowhere near as many as North Korea, but clearly more than som e places in Scandinavia and Northern Europe.

im.

It's unlikely that that would be a good move for anybody. There was a time when racist Americans moved to Australia under the delusion that Australia still had a "White Australia" policy. They were deeply disappointed to find that Australia had opted for multi-culturalism sometime before they moved.

When it comes to coping with a Covid-19 epidemic, China has done a whole lo t better than the US but so have a few other countries with more democratic political systems.

This is James Arthur level thinking. He assumes that because Bitrex doesn't like Trump, he's got to be a socialist/communist and that because Venezula calls itself socialist - when it is merely a failed state in chaos - Bitre x would be happy there. Since nobdy is going to be happy in Venezula until they've got themselves as government that actually works, this is remarkabl y silly, even for John Larkin.

Never been to Venezuela but Colombia is a lovely country to visit at least, beautiful beaches, great food, low cost of living, friendly and attractive women (particularly at the beaches.)

Definitely experience you start thinking about when you're sitting in a balls cold auto maintenance shop waiting room with a busted heater in January somewhere in the Northeast, and only someone's granma arguing with the sullen tech about the cost of a brake job on her 2002 Buick and a stack of magazines 8 months out of date for company. oh no. please don't deport me.

The US tends to believe economics is a science but epidemiology is a sooth-saying; Americans tenaciously holding onto their 401ks and IRAs entirely confident in the power of exponential growth to recoup the losses incurred by their government's lack of belief in the power of exponential growth.

It's not the country people don't want. It's those who can't think straigh t that the rest have to share it with. Considering how Larkin is constantl y whining about what everyone else is doing or thinking, I would expect him to be one of the first to leave with you a close second. Can I get the do or for you? Let me call you a cab to the airport.

No, this is a great country. It is definitely the sharing it with those wh o are so intolerant of others that makes everyone unhappy. The key word th ere is "share". It would be a very different place if everyone learned to share and what it means to support each other.

Dear me. You have just outed yourself as a socialist, which - by the rules of rightwing thinking - makes you a card-carrying member of the communist p arty.

Expect a subpoena from the Committee Investigating Un-American Activities ( like kindness and charity) sometime very soon.

wrong, to be set right.?

Well, no. When that guy from EPA testified that epidemiology was a pseud oscience, I had a momentary lapse of temper. He was lying. An insurance company with a map discovered that a lot of death benefits wer e going to a particular section of London, and indicted the well serving that area as the source of cholera. It was a major public health victory at the time, and it was CERTAINLY epidemiology. EPA needs real thinkers, not truth-twistin g political hacks.

Real US citizens aren't likely stupid enough to believe the hacks, I hope. The EPA didn't catch Flint, Michigan, either. It took a scientist from out

-of-state.
