OT: Android Updates

Does anyone get frustrated with the number and frequency of Android app updates? I don't even have that many apps, but it seems every time I turn on a tablet or phone after even just 48 hours of not using it, I have five or six software updates waiting for me.

These aren't small field either, they're often huge downloads consisting of dozens or even hundreds of megabytes. It wouldn't even be that bad as I'm usually on a fast connection these days, except once the update is downloaded the device usually locks as the update is performed...then multiply this by five for each update of the day. Can't even make a phone call while an update is in progress...it must suck for someone who needs to call 911 to watch their phone lock up repeatedly.

Mostly bug fixes and endless "UI tweaks" probably. No changelogs provided.

I don't seem to have that problem with my phone. There is one that spams me with messages for the paid update. It's usually "on sale" for $.99. I don't need the features of the paid upgrade but it may be worth the buck to stop the spam.

Which apps?

Nope, not me or any of my customers.

Under MyApps for my Nexus 7 tablet, shows that I have 156 apps installed. I get about 20 updates per day. I have it set to only do updates when charging, so it's not much of a bother when I'm actually trying to use the tablet.

Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Advanced -> Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep -> Only when plugged in

Settings -> Auto-update apps -> Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only

Huh? If you're getting firmware updates, I can see somethat really big, but most of the updates I get are around 5-10MBytes. They're all the same size as the app. You'll see the sizes listed under: Settings -> Apps The largest is can find is 78MB as "MyTopMaps".

If you're seeing such large amounts of traffic, my guess is that you are synchronizing files that you have saved in Google Drive, possibly to your desktop. Check your Sync settings and what you're chosing to sync.

It's not really a changelog, but there's some history of what was recently updated under: Play Store -> [3 bars in upper left] -> My apps and games -> installed Mine shows 25 apps "recently updated".
