There was a Harvard or MIT study years ago that followed a bunch of grads who went on to become millionaires. A surprising percentage made their fortunes DOING WHAT THEY LIKED to do, not necessarily what they went to school for.

So, I guess the moral is you have to be passionate about EE if you plan to make any money at it.

I agree. Energy and healtcare seem like good bets. We got a bunch of old farts around, and those heart-lung machines need electricity!

The typical grocery store is only about 1%.

Illini. I've only visited Florida a few times. It's not my favorite place either; too many New Yawkas.

The Iron Bowl (Alabama/Auburn) is here today. I'm not planning on going anywhere until everyone is drunk and at the game.

I disagree with the healthcare part. Even wet-backs can give end-of-life counseling.

This is "Black Friday", the mall maggots are out in droves... I'm not leaving the house ;-)

I view the Christmas shopping season as more treacherous for driving, than driving after midnight when all the drunks are loose on the streets and highways. ...Jim Thompson

It normally would be here today too, but Football trumps even Christmas.

That'll be 1/2hour after the game, if they can find their cars. I'll certainly be home by then.

I don't follow the teams. I would rather have a root canal than watch football.

Surprisingly, the first half of the Iron Bowl has been pretty good (14/14 at the half). For a #2 and a #nobody, it's pretty good.

The local mall was suprisingly quiet around 9AM this morning. Went to Sears to pick up a new jacket. Cashier said they had about 60 folks in line when the opened - which was very early (5AM?) Mostly for big screen TV's and electronics.

Not a soul in sight to help in the mensware section, though - and barely any line at checkout time. Wouldn't you think that a bit unusual for "Black Friday"? I was expecting loads of shoppers and employees!!!

That said, I did get some deals. 33% off a jacket, and a $65 pair of slacks for $10.

If the low turnout at the malls is any indication, (and with gold dropping a la Dubai) I wonder what economic hammer is going to fall next??? But maybe the malls did better in your neck of the woods? Or, maybe we should be looking at Wal-Mart to better gauge the economy?

Huh. Interesting choice there Michael. I guess since I've never had a root canal I'll just have to take your word for it. But I must say, I have a terrible fear-based relationship with dentists! I'm the type that opts for sedation denistry just for a simple cleaning.

Still, based on what I (think I?) know of your past, you probably have a much higher tolerance for pain to begin with!

Like I said, I'm two weeks from graduating. It's a tad late to change my major. The reason I went into EE is because I've been an "electrical engineer" since I was about six years old. Nothing held together with screws was safe in my house. I knew the difference between a resistor and a diode before I could ride a bike. I collected tubes while the other kids were collecting baseball cards. I tried doing college the first time in a "practical" field, and was miserable, and eventually dropped out and joined the Army. When I finished my most recent hitch, I was very comfortably living on a mid- $40k salary as an E6. I never said $48k excited me, just that I am pretty sure I can get it in today's economy, even if it means going back into the Army and taking a tax-free deployment. I made $3.50 an hour at my first job. I didn't grow up in a mansion with a staff.

If I had it to do over again, I'd have gone EE the first time. I didn't get into it for the hard work. I got into it because I love the smell of rosin flux, the glow of LEDs, and the hum of transformers.

Hopefully that explains a few things.

Who mentioned the Seminoles? Can't they find any whole noles? ;-)

Florida Gators (SEC) Ben Hill Griffin Stadium W University Ave & Gale Lemerand Dr, Gainesville, FL

I've spent almost three hours in a dental chair having two broken teeth pulled without pain killer, because none was available. The dentist was amazed that i didn't pass out. I did damaged the dental chair, though. I bent both arms. :)

High pain threshold, and to electrical shock. Both can get you hurt. :(

I must ask now, how old were when you built your own design for the first time? I was 14, and calculated every capacitor and resistor in it. I was building kits at 10.

Military pay scales at the O-1 O-2 levels do not look very inviting.

Tough it does seem better than E-6 levels.

As much as I am the company's.

I've almost always liked my boss, though I had one I didn't like so much. He was a friend (but a horrible tightwad). ;-)

The company....never.

The boss...can be.

I had one..no make that two bosses that ended up being very good friends.

It takes a special boss and employee to make a friendship work in the business world.

Forget what? That you are in a relationship with your boss no matter how much you dislike him? That it's better to like what you're doing than be miserable? That you feel dissed because you aren't the boss?

What a moron.
