Upstate the real estate taxes are less. I pay almost as much in real estate tax as in federal income tax.

"Less" is a relative thing. I moved from VT to AL and my taxes are less; 75% less for 60% more house. ;-)
Ha!
Florida is basically Mexico (and/or the rest of latin america), without any legitimate US citizens. Be prepared to learn spanish if you come here. In fact, if you're not bilingual, you're at a disadvantage in the job market here.

Gator?
NY is pretty civilized. I've been to the city and upstate. I can't say I've been to the western part of the state.
Florida has all those speed traps. Toss in crappy drivers. Most urban areas have traffic worse than Boston. The NY transplants only improve Florida.
??
I've lived in NY (19 years) and don't find it in any way civilized, up, down, east, or west. It's a nuthouse.
Crappy compared to NY or MA? New Yakas improve anything? Maybe MA, but even that's a stretch.
Take the 62K. I have a friend who has a mid sized company in Florida that makes HV power supplies, he says there are more EEs in Florida then Florida needs and the going rate is low. And get the numbers up, I had to take a 40,000K job at a friends company as a R&D tech, after being downsized, and that doesn't really leave any fun money after paying the medical bills and gas and car repairs. I estimate 50K would be the level where I could really start to invest or put money some place earning interest. Ohio and Indiana are dead, although Indy is doing better then Ohio. I have to commute 250 miles to see my dog and check on my family in Ohio.

Never look a gift horse in the mouth, take the job and pay off those loans ASAP. If the job sounds amazing as you say then you are crazy not to take it. Odds are you'll get stuck in some shittier lower paying job elsewhere. Get more experience in the field and then move in a year or two when you have secured another better job.
BTW, I don't know about the US job market, I'm based in Oz, but these things hold true pretty much anywhere.
BTW2, Why Florida?, from my experience that is one of the shittiest parts of the US

We can't have all work and no play!.
Beaches, girls, woman, parties etc.. :)
Wonderful beaches along the Gulf Coast. There are much worse places; Illinois and New Jersey come to mind.

Most of the crappy drives have out of state tags. From New York or New Jersey. Others are in Florida on vacation from Europe and driving rental cars.
All of Florida is not the same, but you're too blinded by hatred to find out.

I actually like the south. I have lived in VA, GA, NC, SC, and central FL (and briefly on the panhandle and the beaches are great there, I agree). I hate the weather up here but I think I could tough it out for a year or two. But many of the things said here about that region of the country are absolutely true. :)
Also not crazy about the taxes or gun laws up north.
I think I'd be pushing my luck to assume that I'll get as good (relatively speaking) a second time. Of three places I've actively pursued employment at so far (homework is still taking up a lot of my time), only this one called back. I still have not heard from any of the places down south and I haven't just been letting things take care of themselves.
It's certainly a mystery to me why anyone entering university would choose EE. If you get excited for 48K, you need your head examined. It's too late for oldsters like me, but if I could do it over again, not a picosecond would go towards EE. I'd look into what's more lucrative and important in today's world. Medical, law, environmental (could be something like building or selling green homes), etc. All the hard work in EE has been done. It's all firmware now.
Sure, I got that part. I don't understand where he got that, or if he meant me, or just what his point was. Could just as easily be Seminole, or...
Because it's fun?
I would. I've done reasonably well and had a lot of fun along the way. Even more so now that I can do what I want.
Medical? You must be joking. You might just as well work on the GM assembly line.
1) Completely wrong. 2) EE is a good way to get into firmware if that's what floats your boat.
I rather liked the "gun laws" in Vermont. The rest of the state wasn't worth anything but the "gun laws" were great. The only improvement I'd make is to have a voluntary carry permit (like Alaska).
I think you're nuts if you don't take the dream job, work your ass off, and then decide if you want to move on in five years. It'll go like a flash.

yGuess you never heard of analog. ;-) While your at it, look at the PM of say Linear Tech.
I don't remember what my point was either...? :) Guess I was just wondering if you went to Florida.
BTW Terrell, the FSU Seminoles are in Tallahassee, not Gainesville!! Yikes! Can't believe you got those mixed up!
UF / FSU is a longstanding conference rivalry, for those who don't follow college football.
