On the subject of Stew

Wether your Stew be Chilli Con Carni or Chicking Curry or Sweet and Sour Pork or just a basic thing with some minced beef, oxo cubes, carrots, leeks, potatoes, pearl barley and assorted vegetables along with a packet of crofters vegtible soup.

As a batchelor on the dole you will probably be forced to make one that is going to feed you for a week.

So,

When you ladel the next portion out make sure you pat the rest of it down into the bottom of your stew pan before putting it back in the fridge.

See, if you leave big gaping holes in it then all of the water stuff will separate out from the rest of it. This way it won't.

Trust me, I've thought about it.

You're on the dole, and you can afford meat?

Yay socialism, I guess.

Thanks, Rich

Heck, that's nothing. If you have a freezer, and some zip-locs, you can spoon about a pint of stew into a bag and freeze it - that way, you don't have to worry about the stew getting fuzzy in a week or so's time. ;-)

But hell, who makes stew from scratch, when Dinty Moore is two and a half bucks for three days' worth? ;-)

Cheers! Rich

Dinty who?

I've ventured into tinned stews once or twice in the past, out of sheer nosiness. They all resemble posh dogfood.

Yay supermarkets and their pale imitations of real meat, I should think.

I was going to ask how you know what posh dogfood tastes like, but just thinking about it makes me feel slightly queasy, so I won't bother.

Ah, I didn't mean tastewise - I mean they *look* like posh dogfood, at least how the posh dogfood looks on telly adverts.

Apparently I used to try and steal the cat's food as a tiny nipper but I can't say I remember what it tastes like.

it does raise interesting questions of whether people on the dole should be forced to turn veggie or not, and how that could be managed anyway. Let's leave aside the matter of whether one could afford internet access...

Why, and how would it be enforced?

Well exactly.

Cheap entertainment, plus one can look for jobs. Whether all people who are unemployed wish to look for jobs is another matter.

That's a relief!

I used to eat worms, so I was once told, but like you I can't remember what they were like. I'd imagine they might be a tad gritty.

Yes, perhaps you're right - I do have spindly legs, as well as a tendency to stand on fence-posts and look cheeky.
