Actually, because they make them so cleanly, it's hard to tell they're even stamped and brazed. The seam must be on the order of a thou. I suppose they could be diffusion bonded, too, in which case you might not even know!
Same process that's been used for half a century though. Hard to beat!

I think the basic Coleman stove is the way to go for camping. You can safely transport the fuel. I put it in a MSR container and that inside of an ammo can that seals. It works well at all temperatures and altitudes.
Esbit style fuel is for backpacking. The fuel is very compact. It isn't a particularly cheap way to heat water, and you need a decent lighter to get them going.
I don't like butane. When things go bad with pressurized gas, things really go bad. [I do use isobutane in lighters to make them burn above
10ft.]I had a Coleman shoot flames out of the pump. The pump is replaceable on most models. It is best to carry a spare.

True, the engine can produce heat, but the idea is how to produce hot water from an electric source. It can't be all that easy else someone would have done it already. Certainly the need is there.
At the now defunct Livermore swap meet, a vendor used to work for Tesla and had all sorts of protype devices, basically items that didn't make it into the car. Lots of heater designs, LED tail lights, etc. Anyway, no engine heat means you have to make your own heat.
I have no idea if Telsa has pulled off deliveries yet, but if Musk can get a rocket to the space station on the first try, I expect the cars to be superb.
Unfortunately I recall little of my thermoD, but maybe these calculations are based on 100% efficiency. Then again, isn't resistive heat 100% efficient. The heating element produces no sound and little light, so most of the energy goes into heat.

The cup, depending on it's dimensions and IR reflectivity will be losing heat proportional to temperature difference with it's surroundings, so who knows how long it would take in practice!!

Well, if a running auto, you could preheat the water with a water-water heat exchanger from the engine cooling water, perhaps tapped into the heater core pipes. Then, getting it from 85C or whatever up to boiling would not take much energy.
Hmm, today in the US midwest, you could boil water in a black coffee cup in the middle of an asphalt parking lot. No electricity needed.

Yes, it can be, if there is another source of heat to draw from. You'd need a fan and heat source (I guess that's what you call a heat sink when the heat is flowing the opposite direction!) on the cold side of the Peltier unit, and good insulation on the hot side/cup.
Typical Peltier units don't like their hot side getting up to 100C though.

That's just wrong. Cost per each of semiconductors doesn't go down if the testing/matching/tuning is expensive, and cost per pound of magnetrons DOES go down with production volume. Not to mention, magnetrons are electronic parts, not mechanical ones.
