Multimeter Display Fade

I'm browsing ebay for bench meters and I can't tell if it's bad photography or that most of the fluke bench meters sold on Ebay look dim.

I just did an experiment with polarized sunglasses and an old clock radio with a VFD.

There's no light attenuation when I rotate the glasses.

That's because God, in His infinite wisdom, has arranged it so that
vacuum fluorescent displays don't need polarizers to work, but liquid
crystal displays do.
