Still won't kill bed bugs.
I was answering DLU's question. CD was killed off by hydrogen bombs, which rendered it pointless.

The Soviets invested heavily in (probably Potemkin-theatrical, ineffective) civil defense measures despite that; the US let the public assume that a thermonuclear war was un-survivable (while from time to time planning to win it, at least in private.)
