Mos switch

I don't understand how mos switch works: it is designed to work in linear or in saturation region? In sedra-smith i've found a description of trasmission gate in saturation region, instead i thought it worked in linear region...

Depending on the Gate-Source voltage, a MOSFET (or JFET, for that matter) can operate in either the linear or the saturation region.

If a mosfet is being used as a switch, than it should be designed to operate in its linear (resistive triode) region, i.e. hard on. If it is in its "saturation" region, i.e its constant current region, then it will have a very large on resistance, which is not what one wants for a switch.
