Sad, They should really save VOA. Maybe not operate it 100%,but keep it operational.

I visited the Bethany facility around 1970. That is the one they show the towers being dropped with explosives. They were almost done with the task of replacing the original Crosley transmitters with custom designed equipment from National Radio Corp. while keeping everything

100% functional. The new transmitters were ten identical 50 kW that could be combined into any multiple of 50 kW they needed. They were building a new control center that allowed them to take control of the entire network if the ground based microwave relay went down. Since it was a secure government facility, no cameras were allowed.
