More on the stolen bike

My wife, aka eagle eye, left work early on the prowl for the bike thief. Being her second case to solve, you do recall her apprehending two hulking Mexicans to retrieve a stolen wallet about 7 months ago. In that case fter canvasing several neighborhoods, she saw a similar truck, checked for heat from the radiator, it was hot. All 4 ft 7in of her walked up to the door, a hand with a wallet comes out, she took it and left.

But I digress, she left work early and by luck happened to see the bike parked ata gas station. She drove in and called me, I was about six blocks away, when I got there I ran up to the guy and tried to grab that chain around his neck, I missed it was a short chase and I had flopped out of both my shoes. As I ran out of the house I just grabbed some slip ons. He was gone. I drove around a little hoping to find him walking, I gave up looking and on my way back home there he was on the opposite side of the street, I pulled across the road, he put his hands up and circled around and again, were running, I stopped went back and got my car, I followed him, the guy was pooped out had no run left, he went down the street and around the corner. I boxed him into about 150 ft back and forth area, him walking, me driving. In the mean time my wife called her friend a policeman, he was on duty about two blocks away. He showed up, took him into custody, then another officer showed up, he happened to be the one that to the initial report. He got out his camera pulled up the surveillance picture from the store and compared the two, He said " yep, that's him". The thief had taken off the mirror, a cup holder and a bag I had on the handlebars. He also had cut off my lock and chain and put his own lock and chain on. The cops got the key from him and took the lock and chain off. They took him to jail. I signed to press charges. He'll be out in the morning. I'll still be without my missing items. Eagle Eye catches the thief again! Mikek

How racist of her, stalking a victim, like that.

I do, but it's so much more than her detective abilities. :-)

She is a bit, out of ignorance, but even against her own culture, but she see's what they do. Also wanted this to get back to the top so other s see I got the bike back. Oh, and I'm hurting, I have a bad back and all the running chasing the guy didn't hurt while I was on an Adrenalin rush, but now I'm feeling it. Mikek

I am glad you resolved this and got your bike back. Your wife's sleuthing was successful and spotting the bike made it all the easier to

positively identify the proper miscreant.

My previous point was that you have to be careful in case another explanation may have accounted for the loss of the bike. In this case it

was the same guy. Vigilance, not becoming a vigilante solved this one.

Well done.

Just think, if you'd have locked your bike this probably never would have happened, and you'd never would have been able to receive such an overwhelming amount of pleasant attention from friend and foe alike discussing your life and making you feel like an important person. Mission accomplished, well done.

You mean the Cambridge urchins are no longer a problem stealing bicycles from around Harvard and MIT? ...Jim Thompson

Anyone who could afford to live in Cambridge currently would just have a new bike shipped to them from Amazon within 30 min; a stolen bike wouldn't even be worth their time to follow up on.

Not so sure. My junior engineer had three specially- configured bikes made for the Institute 15 years ago, Capable of carrying stuff, etc., each cost over $1k. For general use by whomever at the Institute, driven all over Cambridge and Somerville. Quite heavy use. Rugged bikes; we still have two of them, and I don't think the missing 3rd bike was stolen, exactly.
