Microcontroller NG

I am somewhat disappointed at the lack of newsgroups dedicated to microcontrollers. Specifically the more popular ones such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Propeller, Basic Stamp, etc. The existing groups (alt.microcontrollers and alt.microcontrollers.8bit) have shown little to no activity in recent years. With the increased popularity of these amazing devices it would seem wise to start a new group specific to our interests. Creating a new group seems a little daunting to me. Is there anyone out there with usenet experience that would take on the project of starting a new group? Everyone, please let me know your thoughts.

There is at least comp.sys.raspberry-pi with some traffic.

It seems that the discussion has moved to device- specific Wikis.

Circuitco has a forum for the Beagle Board abd Beagle Bone series at

That is quite active. Very specific to Beagle xxx projects, of course, and more aimed, it seems, at software-related issues than hardware, but plenty of interesting people doing all sorts of strange interfacing projects.

I've used the Beagle Board in several remote-controlled devices, and thought they were totally a "hacker's paradise". Now I've used the Beagle Bone in a couple, and they are even BETTER!

Possibly that's because if you've been around for a while you're experienced at more than one microprocessor and you gravitate toward comp.arch.embedded.

Thanks! Though comp.arch.embedded.picbasic and comp.arch.embedded.piclist appear to be dead, comp.arch.embedded seems lively and useful.

comp.arch.embedded is pretty active. I do Arduino myself but Beagle looks pretty powerful. I may look into that.

Most people seem to have moved to forums rather than Usenet. All the processors seem to be represented, and most forums are very active.

Finding them is just a little harder than with a ng, but that is because the Web is a sprawl, rather than an ordered structure.

Maybe I'm just old fashoined. I've been using Usenet for over 20 years and don't seem to want to change. True it's become a haven for pirated software and movies but it still is useful for like minded people like us to help each other and exchange ideas.

Have a look at:

for Microcontroller and PC projects.

The most popular project followed is around a program called MMbasic, which runs on PIC32 devices. A full computer system on a single chip, and much more.

Most of those are follwed in dedicated Forums... AVRFreaks for example. Mostly, I guess because you can post circuit diagrams etc...

If you see something on the Internet, it's because you went looking for it on the Internet. ;)
