Memeo Instant Backup

I'm starting to wonder if this thing is working. The files are copied to an external drive without compression or encryption. It has worked for some time, but this version only backs up what a typical home user might want to back up... sort of. I found that it ignores any directories that are hidden such as the AppData directory where a lot of important stuff is kept, like my emails! So I made that not hidden and now it seems to back up. At the moment it was current as of 6:29 AM today.

But some other important directories don't seem to be getting backed up like my work stuff! I see a couple of sub-directories that have not been backed up for a month! I'm not always great about connecting the hard drive to let the backup happen, but it has been connected since last night. I guess it is possible that it is still in the works. Trouble is I don't see any activity on the external hard drive.

The GUI on this thing is terrible with not enough space for the paths and file names. It also gives you no indication of what needs to be backed up still. In the display of what is currently being backed up it often lists a file name that is long and looks like a hex number. I can never find any of those files when I do a search.

I suppose I need a real backup utility. I like the way this works (or is supposed to work) by simply connecting the drive it starts.

rsync.

I keep all of my work under version control using git, and back up to bare repositories on a couple of NAS boxes at different locations.

RoboCopy in a batch file, run via the task scheduler works for me. Open files are a problem though.

Cheers
