Who's got the lowest phase noise oscillator module under $150 that uses

What phase noise do you need? At what offset? Different manufacturers do better in different areas. Is the $150 for one, or apiece for

10,000?

I'd say your best bet is to look at the "likely suspects" and see who comes closest to what you want. If it's one-off, you may be able to pick one up on ebay for a reasonable price that will do well; there are a lot of HP10811's out there, and they are pretty decent. Wenzel Associates is one place to get oscillators with very low phase noise; not sure what the best they do for under $150 is.

This would be better for reference frequency sources:

OK, Fred, I'm curious. Better than what? I don't see anything very impressive in the phase noise of the MTI models whose data sheets I brought up just now. I'm always happy to find new sources of low phase noise oscillators. Did I miss something? Wenzel's seem clearly better both close-in and at the ultimate noise floor than the MTIs. IIRC, the HP10811's we used to use (the low phase noise option) were about the same as the good Wenzel parts close-in, and not quite as good ultimate floor. Gotta be pretty careful to get to -170dBc--and at 1kHz offset from a 10MHz output.

Cheers, Tom
