Well, if you include the multiple iterations of the ones that were wrong, your total does come up a tad. And there *are* a lot of variations of 555 timers and hairball async CMOS logic that are possible.

"Clever asynchronous solution" usually means "hazardous hairball." Lots of people write code that way, too.
Funny you would say this in a thread, 170 or so responses long so far, that I started by posting an original circuit. Which you had nothing to say about, and which Thompson says he can do better, but won't.
OK, I suppose a 555 wouldn't be very useful in making a 20 ns linear ramp.
