Jandy Aqualink RS 8 Schematic

I'm looking for a schematic for a Jandy Aqualink RS 8 swimming pool controller.

It shot craps yesterday and the pump won't shut off.

Of course it's typical American engineering, uC plus hokey "solid state relays": TRIAC in parallel with an undersized mechanical relay, all in one $60 package :-(

BTW, I learned a nasty lesson yesterday... working outside, when it's

110°F... even in the shade, is treacherous. I suddenly got the dizzies :-(

Check the triac for that relay, that's what usually goes kaputt. Probably says BT-something on there.

You mean the whole pool timer is only $60? I remember them being sold for ten times the price of sprinkler timers which essentially have almost the same functionality, which is why I ...

Careful, heat stroke can kill you if nobody is nearby seeing you hitting the concrete.

I knew it. IMHO totally over-prized. I won't use pool timers because I am not inclined to help finance some executive's Lamborghini. I mean, what does that thing do? Turn on the filter pump and a while later the booster pump for the sweep.

Anyhow, if the relay is hanging and it's a module check the triac in there. Unless, of course, an undersized relay has welded shut.

Awwwh! Can't I sell you a chip design to finance mine ?:-)

I hear clicks.

I'm going to replace it "classic-style"... small relay driving contactor.

Tons of room inside the box. Probably was built originally with _real_ relays.

Nah, I just buy my chips at the local store. For example Pringles :-)

That's what I had once when the triac was toast. Replaced it, done.

Then the accountants came and said the gross margin has to go from 90% to 91%?

Monday, 110°F, and I nearly get heat stroke.

Today, cool, so I try to complete my outdoor wiring job... dropped abruptly down to 66°F and just started dumping COLD rain on me :-(

Snow predicted up north.

So, did you get that relay module fixed?

Bypassed it with a mechanical timer so I could get the pool motor running. Ultimately will chain a small relay to a contactor. No more "funny" relays ;-)
