Interesting method. However, using finite element analysis yields:
Assuming two diameters of ferrite rods, both 1 cm long and both with rel perm of 2000 first rod is 5mm diameter, 2nd rod is 2mm diameter arbitrarily wrap 100 turns of 36Awg on the rods and operate at 100kHz, hold rods end to end at 5mm then move to 6mm apart. [axially aligned]
Diam 5mm: L=146uH, 2.5ohm k=0.099 then lowers to 0.078 diam 2mm: L=71uH, 1.2ohm k=0.046 then lowers to 0.035
Is the range of error in your 'estimate' 2:1 ??
