The mix down there may or may not be a Helium mix. ISTR that it is not, once a certain depth is passed.

With 1100bar external pressure, any internal pressure tolerable to a human would be inconsequential from a structural point of view.

Your quoting (apparently unread), however, shows us that he very likely proxies his message up to the surface, and it then gets sent from a machine logged into his account from there.
"Texting to the surface..." is NOT "Tweeting from the depths..."

The way I would do it is to have a machine on the bottom, a full duplex communications tether and a machine on the surface being controlled by the machine on the bottom through that tether. THEN, he could send a tweet in real time without assistance.

async serial is plenty, just run a text-mode browser (eg: elinks) on the ship and a terminal program in the sub.
You still don't get it. Text comms to the surface via a serial connection is one thing. Being online LIVE on a tweeter page is an entirely different animal.
