My uncle's collection was easily ten times that amount, including the cylinders.

He gave it to the Cincinnati Historical Society when he died.

They were ALL new, and he recorded a tape when he got them, and archived the records.

The biggest 45 collection I ever saw was in the attic of "Collin's Music Service in Greenville South Carolina. The owner archived like 5 new copies of every top 40 45s ever released from the late 50s on up.

I wish I had either collection (just one sample each from the juke box dude).

The collection totals about 15,000 78s, in various storage racks throughout the house.

In the UK at the moment we have a big problem with recorded archives and how to find a safe home for valuable collections. The "National Sound Archive" has been merged with the British Library and has lost its way. It is being administered by career civil servants with no technical knowledge and very little idea of what is really valuable, or why.

The collection of a friend who died about three years was donated to the British Library - he even donated the catalogue which he had made electronically compatible with their filing system. The B.L. is now claiming they don't have records which I know were in that collection.

I presume the cylinders weren't new when he got them.

There is a story theat when juke boxes were being shipped to England in the 1960s and 70s, they had to be full of records for some administrative reason. The records were all the junk that the U.S. record companies didn't want - and neither did the juke box owners.

At Southampton Docks, they were unloaded from the ships and then upended over the dockside to get rid of the unwanted records. If anyone fancies filling an archive with rare (and probably quite dreadful) 45 singles, they would only have to look in the mud of Southampton Docks.

Me too. I have abominable taste in colors and clothes. Or so I'm told... those things don't matter to me, so I have to take other peoples opinions. If I "dress up" to meet a customer or something (ie, not jeans and a tee shirt) Mo will sometimes look at me when I come downstairs and say..... No.

My requirements are mostly functional. But sometimes I get a crazy idea. Last year I noticed wood-print floor tiles in a home-depot-like-store. Those are on our kitchen wall now. Looks pretty neat and it doesn't get stained like wall paper.

It usually takes us months to find something for our home. Getting wall-paper, a couch, floor tiles, lamps, cabinets can take months and a lot of travelling. Sometimes I make things like doorhandles myself because I can't find the right ones in a shop.

I don't drink (beer) anyway. I just design dispensing systems. This was actually for testing a system which counts the number of (beer) bottles taken from a fridge.

Same pic I posted a while ago when we were discussing bridges, which happened to be shortly after I finished this bridge. No too different than how it looks today. I really need to shovel. And get that darn drawer mounted in the desk. And put up some more power strips. And...

Some of the gear is nice, but he also has a lot of really old stuff.

That CNC machine is pretty neat.
