This say a lot about your knowledge, or lack of it, and nothing about my posting habits. A google groups search threw up 14 entries for me for the last seven days, of which six were technical. Technical answers do take up more time that pointing out that you have an inflated idea of your own competence, and they are usually read by people who are less likely to make foolish responses that invite caustic reactions (though the Jackal is a depressing exception).

Describing a very specialised text-book as a "An absolute "must have" book for all engineers" is deceitful, as is plugging it without acknowledging that you were the seller. Just put it on an X-Y plane, where X is the real axis, and Y is the imaginary axis, and each number is a vector. To multiply, you rotate the vector, so for the square root, you rotate the vector half way back. You start with a vector [a,0], and rotate it 180 degrees, that's [-a,0], but when you rotate it back 90 degrees, you get [0,-ai].

That's how they use j in electronics, and the circle is where the sine and cosine come from.
