Help with daughter!

My sincere sympathies. In 1982-1984 I had two daughters in Scripps College (Pomona Colleges Campus) at the same time. Even back then I was spending $50K per year :-(

I'll have my son going in three years . But, $50,000 ain't going to happen, I'm just a poor boy, (about twice as poor as I was a year ago).

My question still stands. I don't want her to waste 2 hrs every school day. I'm looking for things she can self study that will put her a step ahead when she goes to the University of Florida this summer. Maybe online class for a little structure and feedback. Any Ideas. Mike

How about learning some Chinese? Getting the writing down takes LOTS of practice. May come in handy someday.

Last I heard U of F _is_ a reasonably good engineering school.

I tend to think that Calculus is only learned well if learned alongside the Physics, etc., that needs it.

Others seem to think you should "pre-learn" Calculus.

Let me see if I got this straight. You've got a child that for all intents and purposes is a model student. She has been accepted at U of F. In six months she will have all the freedom in the world, to attend class or not, drink beer or not, and other stuff or not.

She MIGHT just learn to be productive on her own. Maybe get a 2.5 hour a day job flipping burgers just to learn what she does NOT want to do with the rest of her life. Maybe just learn that she doesn't have to go hog-wild (sorry U of Alabama) with the first taste of real freedom by easing in to it.
