Got the servers up at home

In particular, FTP's passive (PASV) mode does not work. people behind routers that don't rewrite FTP traffic won't have FTP access. normal mode appears to work.

What's the lead time on the PI? I ordered one in march, it arrived on Monday.

Makes no sense to me, basically a numeric URL is SAFER, as no DNS spoofing can occur. Some ISPs [can] even direct to whatever they like if you type a normal text URL. Often used to push their own portal if you make a typo and the URL cannot be found.

Why lookup somebody's name in the phone book if you already have the number? Bookmarking also works for numbers.

I am into this as I am setting up named again here, for panteltje.com, so I can easily change when I want to. /etc/bind/zone/.... I can spoof the LAN so you go to any place...

I also have a low power server here, a modified Linksys WAP54G, added SDcard with website, it HAS been online when I was doing maintenace on the webserver.

I'm not expecting to blaze any new trails.

I'm running debian on it, haven't hit any hitches yet, My next task it to figure out how to cross compile on debian for arm using 'scons' (I can do it for win32 - debian arm has got to be easier)

The video doesn't seem very "accelerated" - perhaps it's not as hot as I was expecting or perhaps I need to enable "non-free" packages to install the binary. I haven't invesigated beyond running glx-gears (with no monitor attached) 18fps - I must be doing something wrong.

One goal is to use it as specialised database terminal (over ethernet) controlling RFID harware over a bunch of serial ports and driving and a few relays. there's no big rush on this one. probably months until there's a proof of concept.

Then I need to sort a 12V to 5V converter that's good for about 1A. I'll probably either buy one or copy a reference one-chip buck converter design, web-bench or whatever.

I thought about the WAP54GL for this task, but decided USB host was a "must-have", wifi is nice to have but can be added via USB.

On the other hand I might plug in a usb hard drive and use it for a lan news and media server - currently I've got a PC doing that and little else becauss it's too cold in that room and that room is too big and poorly insulated to heat.
