Just wanted to make sure and say thanks to everyone who weighed in on this issue, and the options available.

I will be taking what I have learned here and elsewhere, to the client and going over other issues to see if we can come up with something useful for them.

The system I built for a CATV head end used a single character generator that fed a modulator with an IF output. This was used to feed the auxiliary IF inputs on all the other modulators and HSPs though a bank of Directional Couplers. (Taps) They each had a terminal to feed DC voltage to switch to the IF input. In an emergency we dumped the regular video on all channels to feed the CG modulated IF, with or without a live video feed to all channels. I used it one night to run a theft of service video and no one noticed that it was a local feed, except people who were looking at our program guide channel. This was an EIE/RCA/Catel headend

I did an earlier system on a 12 channel headend in 1973. We installed custom made RF relays where the civilian CATV feed at Ft. Rucker AL. At the Educational TV headend and studios we installed relays to switch the video feed to the outputs of three, four out video DAs and did the same with the audio, less the DA. The telephone section gave us a dedicated pair to the first CATV amp where it entered the base to feed 24 volts from the head end to the 12 volt relays at the amp. The voltage drop in the wire put around 13 volts on the relays. As a final touch, the emergency control switch had one of those military red flip up covers and a lead seal to prevent tampering. This was on a Vicor/Vicoa/Coral distribution system.
