Back in the 70's and 80's there were lots of places selling semiconductor bars (primarily for teaching purposes).

Today I've been looking for a source but am not having much success, does anyone know where I can buy some (n and p doped bars, longer than say 3mm). ======================================================

I've got some 99.9999% pure 1 kg germanium ingots I'd be willing to sell you, but you will have to do the doping yourself :-).

Right, I've got a saved page somewhere of wafer salesmen... (from ~2-3 years ago.) it's a mixed bag and I can't really recommend anyone. I didn't have any problems with any of them. Well some never returned emails, and got no sales. google Si single wafers. If you just want a few pieces, I can send some bit's your way.
