end of TO92

Motorola/ONSemi, in disassociation with the KEC supply chain, has finally discontinued support for any remaining TO92 packaged parts (PD20685). It's not as though they've actually made any in an ON brand name plant for some time; so it's a (possibly not) surprisingly (definitely) short list.

Too bad, i still hand wire some TO-92s. TO-23 and SC-70 are too difficult to attach wires. What we need are longer pins SC-70s.

There will always be a supplier to meet a legitimate demand for through-hole components. It's been a long time since Motorola held sway in the discrete marketplace.

It's really only a symbolic time-stamp to policies and trends that have been dominant for a decade or more, noted for sentimental reasons more than anything else.

Now if only chip makers would stop inventing new package sizes so we could use generic SMD prototype boards.

Lots of TO-92 general purpose bipolar transistors are still made in Asia and will be for many more years.

Some of those parts are thyristors (2N506x and 2N602x) and probably have demand that has greatly waned.
