*huge*. The original B-36 landing gear is on display. The tire must be 10' tall (they redesigned it later to reduce size/wight). The XB-70 is also surpprisingly massive. They have a couple of planes parked *under* its wing, including an SR-71.

Current is limited by heat dissipation in the cables, and will probably sta y the same. Capacitatively induced currents will go up by a factor of two, but both inductive and capacitative radiation from from power lines are com ing from balanced dipoles and drop off very rapidly with distance, so the " scientist" being quoted is being just as alarmist as you'd judge from the " deadly" adjective.
I don't think that anybody has been proved to have been killed by having l ived close to a high voltage line. You've got to be fairly desperate to be willing to live close to a high voltage line, and that socio-economic secto r does have a relatively low life expectancy - particularly low in the US, where socio-economic gradients are steep - but establishing a causal relati onship hasn't yet been done, though some people claim differently.

DC to the house will happen in the future. But for now, there are DC/AC converters. Picture a DC/AC converter for 700MW at 50Hz. They are made by Siemens. Probably a nice topic for sci.electronics.design?

Given that they (Siemens) can make conversion stations that handle this kind of power (500MW-1GW for already deployed lines) I would not be surprised at all when they can make an AC/AC converter that will handle arbitrary phase differences in the grid.
No, but unless they're using it for something else (inter-grid tie), it seems foolish. Do you have the specifics?

Actually it is more efficient and that is why it is considered.
The line in Florida was three phase AC.
