Sure, actually easier with CMOS than bipolar, simple example (really high currents, 100nA and 200nA :)...

And you can make _really_ high quality mirrors by using cascoding techniques.

Although I've done a number of circuits that received input from photodiodes, even a project where Hobbs was involved (and currents were specified), I've never included a photodiode on-chip, so I didn't know the conversion factors. Now Larkin will make a lot about that, since he can't actually understand the circuit, he'll throw buckets of shit into the air. ...Jim Thompson

You do have to know M (which you still can't figure out!) to see How it collapses. Given M=11 and the circuit model on the data sheet, the "collapse" isn't anything like what Marco is seeing.

Plug 11 into your model and crank out some graphs. That might give you a little insight.

Note how gradual the "collpse" is... not what Marco is reporting. And you have carefully tuned V2/V4 to make it so. Try setting them to 5 volts, and make the mirror ratio 11.

I don't have a calibrated light source, indeed. What I've noticed is that if I approach the lamp slowly the current increases slowly too.

After reaching the maximum values (reported in other posts, depending on Vsupply and Rload) closing further the lamp (few cm) leads to a very fast collapse of the output current.

I know it's a qualitative measurement, but the collapse seems to have a quite sharp edge.

Marco,

With a fairly hi-Z load to ground, 10K maybe, does the output voltage collapse at high illumination?

You should probably dump this part and use matrixed photodiodes. That's a board redesign, but probably a good long-term investment.
