You binary does not show up on Eternal-September. But, how about a long rod , spring loaded that comes into contact with the lid. Switch and stuff can go below the burners.

Mount a tilt switch on the motor/light housing on a weighted arm. Connect that arm to the grill hood with a rod or small chain such that closing the lid lifts the tilt switch.
