digital design projects for undergraduate

Hi, I am looking for some reference to prepare some project lists for undergraduate students. Basically its a syncronous circuit design projects involving few logic gates/counters/registers/mux/encoders/ decoders. I wish to limit the number of IC used to maximum of 8 to 10. I can sit down and think of it, since i have little time as the project schedule is nearing is there a book from where i can check the projects and modify as needed. thanks. kristo

You could build a clock that drives a VFD display, using line AC transitions as the timing source. You'll need

1) multiple voltage sources to drive both the VFD and logic 2) counters and decoders to generate the time 3) time setting logic 4) Line transformations to generate the 60Hz clock.

If you aren't up for VFD, you could use LED 7 segment displays as outputs. That would require a simpler power supply, but wouldn't be nearly as cool.

Regards, Bob Monsen
