Counter with display and reset button

I have been looking for info on how to make a counter.

I need a counter that can count items passing through a hole and display the total number on a display(up to 3 digits). My idea was to use infrared transmitter and reciever on the other side, and then somehow hook it up with a display.

If i understood right, the infrared should not be disturbed by lights or lamps in the surroundings..

Is it possible to buy this kind of equipment complete, or nearly complete? (Im thinking cheap, not some PLC equipment). I would really apreciate it if you guys could point me in the right direction(or to som website).

Thanks, Sven

Some years ago, I did some work on a pill counting machine.. for you, an industrial panel-mount counter will do the counter part, so you only have to worry about the pickup.

Bloody hell, from Engerland manager to proving how many times your thing has passed through her hole...... in Ikea surroundings no less.

I'm not surprised you want it cheap.

I might be able to get you Eltons phone number, no promises though.
