Google will become, if it isn't already, the largest lump of evil ever seen by mankind. It's already surpassed Microsoft in it's 'Borg' like behaviour.

I recently installed Adblock plus in my browser. It stopped over 1900 GoogleAnalytics scripts from running, in a three day span.

That company has spying software everywhere on the Web and it all reports back to head office.

I no longer use Google for a search engine or Google maps for the phone GPS. They want to use me for data acquisition? The can pay me for my time and energy consumption, not sneak around my back taking notes and pictures.

Try

Just turn'em off. That how it's set up here. Tedious at times because some electronics companies require cookies but then I can allow on a case by case basis.

No snooping and tracking here :-)

The only downside is the non-interactive "allow" process. Site doesn't load, no error message because the script kiddies assumed everyone has cookies turned on. Then it's guessing time, type in all sorts of web site names until one sticks. Ok, at least I have to rarely do it.

Or is there a smarter way?

I used to really like Jaffa Cake but I guess only Brits would know what that is. Super mini cakes so they qualify as cookies:

In the Netherlands where I lived at that time they were called Pim's Cake.

I used to drink Pimm's number one cup. Tall glass and mixed about 1/4 booze to 3/4 dry ginger ale. Ice. The secret, however, was a long strip of cucumber peel inserted into the glass and a small wedge of orange in the top.

The aroma given off by that cucumber slice MADE summer happen.

Best served on a hot day.

Well, there is the so-called Patriot Act which makes an ASS out of U and ME - presumes that *everyone* is guilty and no way in hell to prove otherwise.

GoogleAnalytics is used by website owners to track the pages people visit. They made the choice to put the code into their web pages. It is a marketing tool that Google bought from another company. I just stripped all the GoogleAnalytics from one business website. They didn't use the data, and it slowed down the page loading.

That's what you think. If a website uses GoogleAnalytics, you are tracked by the pages you visit, and your IP address.

If you find cookies to be scary then I suggest that you inform yourself of a new addition to the WWW called Web Storage, also known as DOM storage.

Basically, Web Storage is a small SQL data base placed in your own HD that any server you contact is able to access, add and update any information. So, while cookies consist of a small text string which can be at least 4096 bytes, web storage consists of a full blown RDBMS per domain that in practice doesn't have any limit set and is free to be accessed by any web server you happen to access. According to Mozilla:

DOM Storage is useful because no good browser-only methods exist for persisting reasonable amounts of data for any period of time. Browser cookies have limited capacity and provide no support for organizing persisted data, and other methods (such as Flash Local Storage) require an external plugin.
