Hello Stewart,

To be honest, I have yet to see something better than AoE. Win is talking about a new edition for a while now.

Hey, Win, any hint when we can pack the thermos and camp out in front of the next bookstore?

Regards, Joerg

Not the latest perhaps but a good read.

amazon is your friend:

Analysis and Design... Grey and Meyer (The standard) CMOS Analog Design.. Allen Design of Analog Integrated Circuits. Razavi Analog IC design... Johns and Martin

The Art of Electronics isn't an analog IC design book

It's updated to this year. An entertaining thought-provoking book.

Hey, his company is on Capp Street, just a mile or so from here.

Capp street is famous, but not for analog circuits[1].

I think Stewart was looking more for AoE type books, "circuit" design in the sense of putting parts and blocks together.

It is interesting that there seem to be more good books about designing ICs than about using them.

Jim Williams's two books are fun to read, but more a collection of stories than a structured tutorial. A different guy wrote each chapter.

I would appreciate a few suggestions for the best available IC oriented analog design book.

Preferrably one that includes a broad selection of building block type circuits and covers at least a bit of CMOS, A/D, etc. (if possible)?

Something more up-to-date than "Art of Electronics".

Many thanks,

Stewart

What are you laughing at? Win is a published author and you're just an old crank.

Maybe he's on the other end of the street? :-)

Reminds me that we older wiser guys are supposed to live a long and happy life, and not die in a hospital at the end, etc., but instead be shot by a jealous husband.

Is that in one of Willie's songs? I must have missed that somehow, and I have most of his CD's.

The Leftist Socialist baking collective[1] around the corner (they bake peace-symbol breadsticks and have a sign "Make Loaves Not War") makes a damned fine yellow-bell-pepper and Yukon-gold-potato pizza.

But all their stuff is vegetarian, so they don't sell weenie pizzas.

John

[1] This neck of the woods, especially Berkeley, was once a hotbed of collective businesses, where every employee owns an equal share and theoretically has equal management clout. They tend to not survive, for a lot of reasons. This operation is "closed on Monday" but they just lock the doors, circle the chairs, and talk all day.

Pizza? Sounds like something the leftist-weenies eat ;-)

Hello John,

It seems to be the same with universities these days. Young engineers know a lot about the latest and greatest in VLSI tools and simulators. But throw them a bag of parts to make an oscillator and they'll just stare at it.

Their extent of hardware know-how is often reduced to buying PC parts at Fry's and sticking them together. Heck, most of them can't even make pizza from scratch anymore.
