Available alternatives to ULN2004 chip

You need to revise your requirements to match reality. There are lots of makers of ULN2004's (Allegro, TI, Toshiba, ST Micro all majorly distributed through Digikey, Allied, Newark, etc.), but they're all 16 pin packages.

Maybe those distributors that will sell you a 14 pin version do it with a bandsaw?

ULN2003's are even more widely available (slightly different drive requirements).

If you instead look for octal Darlington arrays, you'll find more similar and pin-compatible chips than you care to know about. Try Digikey or really any electronics vendor.

The only difference between the ULN2004 and the more common ULN2003A is more series resistance on the input for use with the older high voltage logic. You can often substitute a ULN2003 (which will draw substantially more input current) or add an external 7.5K series resistor if you like.

But Digikey has almost 10,000 TI and Toshiba UL2004A's (DIP package) in stock, so using the original part number shouldn't be a problem.

You are correct, that one is fine, but you might as well use the Toshiba part: ULN2004AP-ND and save yourself USD0.47/ea (half the price).

I have looked for various cross references for ULN2004 chips (ULN2004A, in 14 pin DIP). There is a couple, but none seem to be easily available commercially, although some google spammer pages promise "instant quotations". Is there some part number that I missed that can be bought easily?

Spehro, based on what I know. you are 100% right. What do you think about 497-4608-5-ND (E-ULN2004A), it seems like a perfect replacement. Am I correct or am I mistaken? Thanks a lot, as always.

Yes, I was wrong, I needed 16 dip, not 14 dip as I wrongly said.

I found 497-4608-5-ND at digikey... I think that it matches what I need... Thanks a lot...
