ATmega8 programmer schematics

Hi all,

I'm trying to build an ATmega8 in-system parallel port programmer. Here's what I've come up with so far (based on the schematic at

Then I saw this:

Now I'm royally confused.

SCK goes to Parallel Port Pin 8 or Pin 6? RST (Reset?) goes to Parallel Port Pin 9 or Pin 6? Must Parallel Port Pins 2 and 12 be tied together? Must Parallel Port Pins 3 and 11 be tied together?

Basically, is my drawing correct? If not, which revisions need to be made?

Thanks in advance

Michael

Found one mistake already... looks like Atmel pin 9 (not pin 5) should go to Parallel port Pin 5.

Oops! (ka-boom)

Michael,

The functions of the ATMEL pins are defined in their datasheets, but the corresponding parallel port pins are defined by the programming software. So different programming software may use different parallel port pins.

thousands have been built, and it has been designed by the people that write AVR software such as Bascom-avr. It has also been tested and approved by codevision, and many other such programs.

and best of all, if you don't want to make up the circuit yourself, there is a bare printed circuit board at:

which is on special at the moment until sold out. Price approx $7USD including air mail postage to anywhere in the world.

extensive hardware and software instructions are on line.
