ASCII Art

Q: Is there software out there to make big letters with a dot matrix printer. Sort of like ASCII art, but I'm looking for that "old-timey" look of IBM printouts and such.

For example, and "A" might look like this: (in Courier or other fixed-width font)

AAAA AAAAAA AAA AAA AAA AAA AAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAA AAA AAA AAA AAA AAA AAA AAA

Did not have time to find the fill method you are looking for but I did see a smaller version filled out with the letters being made...

Plenty to choose from. Search for "ascii art generator"

We'd be printing these after we learnt Fortran 101 in 1970 and playing Lunar Lander on the IBM teletype between class.

It was our 2nd inspiration after the punch-card entry gal who had front bumpers like the most overtly sexual car parts ever made.

I later learned how to inadvertently consume all the Numerical Analysis class's semester CPU time making Calcomp graphical plotter birthday cards in Uni.

Hey incidentally do you know how to prevent Windows clock from getting an offset when you dual-boot Ubuntu? Just noticed my time-stamps were wrong.

Ask Jeff about that. It relates to Unix (BSD) and Linux boxes method of keeping time. (NTP) I fixed mine but do not remember what I did. I requires turning off auto-setting and daylight savings, etc. A bit inconvienient, but my Linux boots no longer futz with the system clock, and and now Windows no longer does either.

Note a weird effect is that my emails and posts made here have the wrong timestamp on them now, even though my PC shows the right time.

Configure both systems to run the hardware clock on UTC the system clock can stay on your preferred time zone, just change how time is represented in the hardware RTC

For linux change "LOCAL" to "UTC" in /etc/adjtime (line 3)

For windows it was a checkbox in the control panel somewhere last time I looked (last decade). possibly under intarnational settings or time and date.

Some old C code I found long ago. You can pipe in your text, or put it on the command line.
