The real action is in the upper-right, 0.8 square inches. I had to lay that out myself because it's too hard to explain to anyone else.

Production wants the wings on the sides for fixturing. After the parts are stuffed, we can lop them off.


Why do the 2,3 and 4 markings have different orientations?

In the SMA footprints? Those are pin numbers, which can be made visible during layout but don't get into the fab files. Actually, all the parts show these pin numbers if you zoom up. It helps doing the layout. I don't know how PADS decides to orient them.

Those three breakaway wings are freebie little PCBs. I might use the long one for a TDR trace impedance test. I could make a capacitor out of one to measure Er. Or something.

How do you expect the rectengular outline in middle right to get produced?

The snap-offs aren't special to anyone who has seen boards being assembled. Add a logo and make them into keychains? I've seen board scraps turned into mechanical parts before too.

The board house will route it out; radiuses are OK in the corners. After assembly, we can cut through the v-scores to make the final shape, a nearly square board with a rectangular cutout for the lower cable.

Two of the SMA edge-launch connectors will be on a precise routed edge. The one on the right will be on a cut-off v-score, so it won't be a precise fit against the board edge and won't be a good high-frequency match, but that's OK... it's a signal monitor with only a 1 GHz requirement and no hard specs on signal beauty.

The SMA connectors are now the Mueller microwave edge-launch parts, pretty good without costing $40 each. For the best transition, the pads have to be just at the edge of the board, marginally routed off.

The design review is tomorrow. Yuk.

It could be converted into slots if nobody will do it. That would give me a clean edge on the right-most SMA. It's just harder to draw.

Each snap must go right across the remaining board, or they can't snap it. Any v-score will run a bit past its notional end-point, and mustn't run into another board.

That's possible to ensure by insisting on the scores running across the board.

Sorry, I don't understand that. We will buy single boards, not panels, so we can easily separate the little fixturing wings after pick-and-place. The PCB house won't brickwall boards on their panel because they route them apart.

We slice the v-scores on our big pizza cutter, not bend and snap.

Yes. But I was giving a reason why some board houses won't do that.

But still, why not a slot? This is a standard feature.

Partial v-scores are possible, they usally need about 15mm lead-in and lead-out. Scoring into a routed board edge is frowned upon, so i'd move the score at 2.600 to 2.650 (or use slots and mouse-bites instead, also fixing SMA J6)

Well, a lot of slots with tabs to cut. That's harder to draw.

It could give me a smooth edge for the monitor connector, but that's only 1 GHz so doesn't care much.

Royal Circuits says yes. The others haven't replied yet.

I think it's done. Resequenced and ready to go.

I converted the v-scores (with great effort) to slots, and then manufacturing made me make them back into v-scores.
