Interesting indeed. Stossel always struck me as an "odd man out" at ABC.

As a side note, people I've talked with who badmouth Rand similarly to the way those mentioned in the article do, never read anything she wrote.

Also, I found _Atlas Shrugged_ very enlightening.

Thanks, Jim.

Thinking back, I believe that I've agreed with at least 99.9% of everything I've ever heard or read that was by John Stossel.

And reading Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" was one of those life-changing (or life-affirming, in my case) experiences that I will always treasure.

you want an interesting read, try One Second After by William Forstchen. It's about after an EMP attack on the US;very enlightening, but also depressing.

People have no idea of the enormity of the threat.

Don't forget that the US is the ONLY entity to have ever actually USED nuclear bombs.

I remember him when he was the consumer reporter on WABC in NYC (mid '70s). At the time he was a Nader wannabe. Somewhere along the line he wised up.

...and your point is? You think a million Japanese and AMericans killed would have been a better plan?

SO FAR. if Iran gets one,you can be sure they -will- use it. either for the EMP attack on the US they have been practicing for in the Caspian,or on Tel Aviv/Haifa.

(besides, what's that to DO with anything? It's a meaningless statement.)

(also,Russia,China,Pakistan, and all other members of the "nuclear club" HAVE "used" nuclear bombs,if only in proving tests;Detonating a nuke IS "using" it.)

that would be a million Japs and a million Americans, not 1 M total. Plus many more injured and permanently disabled, plus severe damage to MANY Japanese cities.

You know what he means (as "SO FAR" admitted above, snipped). Besides, Trinity /= Fat Man, a test isn't an offensive weapon.

"what he means" is STILL not relevant to anything.

and still a dumb statement.
