Your spec is wrong. End of life of a Battery is 0.9 V. So the 4 V will be reached very quick. 1 Amp creates at least 1 V by the contacts (8 contacts and 4 of them, the minus, are often very poor). So even with cood battery connection ... forget it and do your design correct.

End of useful life for a Ni-Cd or NiMH happens when the cell voltage is just over 1 volt - so the full capacity will be obtained.
From the supplied details - the OP's app needs 430 amp-seconds per day.
An 800 mAH Ni-Cd cell can supply 2800 amp seconds.
A 2500 mAH NiMH 9000 amp- seconds.
** One ohms worth of contact resistance at 1 amp is rather extreme.
The use of a welded or soldered pack of rechargeables eliminates that issue.
