8 long x 4 wide x 1 deep, 18 compartment project box anyone?

Once upon a time, ages ago (20 years?) Jameco sold these; removable divider boxes.

Nobody makes anything like this any more, even at the outrageous $25+ each price. All plastic "container" boxes are larger.

Any clues / sources for replacements?

Thanks.

It's unclear if you mean 8 compartments or 8". Regardless, you may get some mileage out of this search:

Beings removability was overlooked the first time, you may get even more mileage out of:

For storing parts? Those are only useful if you don't have many parts.

I use coin envelopes in big plastic bins.

8x4x1" lemme check... OK got something 1.25 x 4.25 x 8.25. Rolson 42 piece key tag assortment, code 61271. A quick search shows no such product now, but maybe Rolson are selling other things in the same box. No clue what they cost. Only 6 compartments.

Depending on how you store them you might be better off getting something x 8" or 12" instead of 4".

Of course you can have what you want if you 3d print it in PETG.

Removable dividers = parts migrate between compartments, at least IME. They turn the part-storage problem into a map-coloring problem, since you have to ensure that no visually similar parts are stored in adjacent bins.

Two things I don't allow in the house: Duracell batteries and parts bins with removable dividers.

The drawers in my parts bins accommodate removable dividers. And a long time ago the dividers were actually used. But they were removed to make room for one or more 2x4x2mil clear bags per drawer. Depending up part size, each 2"x1.5"x5.5" drawer can hold up to half a dozen bags. You can easily see what's in the bag. You also avoid the problems you mention in your first paragraph.
