3M MDR IDC connector vs flat cable pitch

I was wondering if anyone could clear up some confusion regarding connector pitch vs flat cable pitch. 3M advertises their MDR series of connectors a s being 0.050" pitch, which is the horizontal pitch between connector conta cts. However, these Centronics style connectors have two rows (an upper an d a lower row), which I think should require a 0.025" pitch flat ribbon cab le.

All I can find on them says that they take 0.050" pitch flat cables, and fr om their drawing it looks like the spacing between IDC slots is also 0.050" .

I don't understand how a 0.050" flat cable can be used with MDR connectors with two rows of contacts.

Thanks, Doug
