Playing with the two OpAmp approach I saw that it only took one OpAmp if no buffering was needed.

Then I realized that a single section of LM339 will do the same thing, without needing any diodes....

Amazing! A solution with almost no knowledge about the source and absolutely none about the load! I\'d say your salad days are behind you, Jim.

A 12 V relay should be adequate.
