I have a Dell 2000FP that's still going strong, and three 2001FP's I got used that I now use every day. Both are 20" 1600x1200 and you can probably pick them up on eBay cheap.
Not widescreen though.

Sometimes those are very good. But I am firmly entrenched with so many clients that it has become next to impossible. For some I am their only electronics guy and I can't abandon them at this point, wouldn't be fair.
My main concern is what to do when I retire some time in 10-15 years. It'll be gradual, no radical lights out type of thing. With very few exceptions I just don't see a next generation coming that could be (or even wants to be) groomed into this sort of job. And the few exceptions get snatched the millisecond the ink is on their degrees.

Right. And it ain't as cold as everybody said it was going to be. However, depending on how onerous any biz-hostile regs are it might require a relocation.
But only the good stuff, please. None of that cheap stuff in cans.

Whatever you buy be aware of the fact that most screens these days have the high gloss screen. Myself I avoid those like the plague because of all the reflections.
Thanks!
Well notify me in advance and I'll get some Heineken.

Ugh. I bet Phil was thinking more along the lines of a few cases of Trappiste :-)
