H-Bridge Controller

I am looking for an IC that will control a full h-bridge from fwd to rev using a voltage pulse from a function generator. The load voltage is from 5 to 8V, and the current passed through the load is ~16A. I need to be able to switch the bridge from fwd to rev from 0 to 100Hz. I currently have some IRF4905, IRF3205 MOSFETs, although I can change them if absolutely neccesary. I can power the IC using a separate source than the load voltage. Anybody know of an IC that will do this? Thanks for looking.



Can I use 2 IR2010s to do this? If so, how do you get them to actuate

180 degrees out of phase?

Yes, you can use IR2010's to control the FETs. Remember you will also need a diode network to trap the energy stored in the inductor, when the FETs are off. You don't really want to operate them '180 degrees out of phase'. H-bridge control is slightly more complex than this. You will probably need a small 'dead band' time, to ensure that when one direction switches 'off', it genuinely _is_ off, before the other phase is activated. You may also need to turn 'on', both of the low FETs (or the high ones), at the same time, if dynamic braking is required. There are a number of ICs on the market that provide all the controls/timings, from people like Toshiba, Allegro etc.. Also several processors like the latter PICs, have built in quadruple PWM outputs, configured for exactly this operation. The best configuration, will depend totally on what you want to do, and the sort of currents involved.

Take a look at the IR2302, it's much like the 2010 except it has a single input and the high and low drive outputs have the deadtime builtin and it's in an 8 pin pkg. I haven't looked, but there may be similar full bridge drivers.
