Problem in using Hierarchical Blocks in OrCAD Capture 10.5

Dear All,

I am using OrCAD 10.5 Schematics Capture tool and my design requires same circuit to be used twice on the board. So I created a hierarchical block and pasted two instances of this hierarchical block in order to have same circuit repeated twice. But I am getting error while generating the netlist as reference designator remains same for the two instances of the circuit. For e.g if I have capacitor C1 in one instance (hierarchical block) then the reference designator corresponding to the same capacitor in the other instance (hierarchical block) is also C1.

Please let me know of the solution. Needless to say, I would be very thankful.

Take a look in the help at the differences beteen simple and complex hierarchy. If your only using the block twice I would suggest simple hierarchy.

How would the pcb designer know which C1 you wanted connecting? You must have different component references if they are to go on one pcb.

It should be showing something like, for example...

C_HB1_C9

and

C_HB2_C9

Perhaps, when you copied the block, the "HB" designator didn't change?

Or it could be that CRAP called OrCAD Capture... I use the old original MicroSim PSpice Schematics.

If you try to open one of the sub-sheets directly, you'll notice that it's asking which instantiation you want to open; it's keeping track of the annotations seperately.

You need to re-annotate your design. Do an 'unconditional' update.

Dear All,

Thanks for your prompt responses. The problem was solved by doing unconditional update first and then reannotating the design.
