yes i added a pspicetemplate property, but it looks like part of the show stopper was that i didn't set "Implementation Type" to PSpice Model. The warning didn't stop the show, as it was an error in another area. this tool is very difficult to use...

Be warned. There are other libraries in the Tool (depending on how you installed it) that reference parts that don't have simulation models and therefore can't be simulated in PSpice. Some of them are specific to the PC Board layout tool and perhaps there are others as well.

Bea, You have run into one of the basic Murphy rules of simulation: At least one (or usually more) of your parts will not have a simulation model available. The database parts are assured to have a schematic symbol, and a PCB layout footprint but ARE NOT going to have simulation models. To get those, if it isn't in the standard PSpice libraries, you have to actually do some design work. Read up in the manuals on how to create a part for a model. There are lots of models available on the web (this newsgroup often processes requests for them...) and once you find the model, it is fairly straight forward to create a symbol for them.

Hi Phil, Well, manufacturers websites are often the best ones. In case you didn't know, most of the models included in the commercial software packages originally come from the manufacturers. They are not created by the software companies. It isn't their area of expertise, you see...

So, manufacturer ANxxx Devxxx comes out with a new line of parts. They will send those models to the software vendors, with an agreement to allow them to distribute those models with their software. But, what if they don't want to have it distributed? Or if they want to control who actually gets the models? Then, they will NOT send them to the sim software folks, but keep them on their own websites, sometimes with NDAs associated. In that case, users that want to use their parts need to come to the manufacturer directly to get those models.

So, among the different vendors with spice models on their sites are TI, Analog Devices, Linear Tech, and a host of others...
