What "crash" is this- tell us the brand so we can be sure to avoid it. From what people are saying about XP, I think it will be time for Linux on my next iteration- or maybe a Mac.

Fred, You haven't been following the thread... it was a hardware failure, with a boot sector burn as well... the HD can still be read fortunately, but some files are "gone"... probably index related.
