I *really* upset a friend by describing childbirth as the conversion of an internal parasite into an external parasite. Unfortunately, the joke's on me, now that we have an external parasite over 30 years old. I've also seen claims that "parasite" requires that it be a different species, as well as that a fetus has a symbiotic relationship with the mother, based on some supposed benefits she derives from pregnancy.
