It was bad here, when I-75 was shut down several times. I could hear the traffic on 441, since it passes a half mile from my home.

I don't know what news you were listening to, but two days before the hurricane hit all I heard on national news was how it was hard to find supplies and how the shelters were open and lots of people were going to them.

When exactly was "the night before the evacuation"? What part of Florida are you in?

Glad to hear that you survived that mess. Did you make it out of Florida or hunker down, there?

Well, it's good to see you back and seemingly none the worse for the experience. I was wondering how much longer it would be before you got back online and was beginning to fear the worst, but thankfully you made it. I hope your stuff is safe, too. Bad enough having the forces of nature to contend with, without the perils of looters and such like on top of it all.

Thanks. A lot of people are afraid to com onto my property, thanks too a carefully executed plan to convince them that they won't leave it, vertically. ;-)

I spent three days and two nights at a local high school that was built to be a hurricane shelter. It was one of two designated for the disabled, and special needs. The room I was in had four people on oxygen, and a family with two little boys.

Exactly. They had opened shelters in South Florida, but it was another day before they were opened, here.

North Central Florida.

I don't get your point. Your first post seemed to be complaining about the "misinformation" from the news when they reported the shelters were not open. Then you say they *didn't* open the shelters until "another day". So the shelters were not going to be open where you were, then they authorities changed their minds and opened them. The news didn't report that?

That's good. You'd said that you were going to try to make it out. I knew that I75 and I90 were parking lots at the time, so that wasn't likely to happen. How did your home fare?

We were without power for 24hrs and they shut down work, but otherwise, the only issues were traffic (from those escaping) and difficult-to-find gas. Gas is still $.30-%.40 higher than it was. I expect it'll slowly come back down over the next couple of months.

That's no surprise. The nearest TV stations were reporting that there were no shelters open in my county. I found out the next day that they were open, but the stations lied abut it.

None that I've found, so far. I still have a lot of tall weeds to clean up, before I can inspect everything. Some of the weeds grew two feet, during the extended rain. I've been hacking a path from the back door to the driveway, but it will close up in a week if I don't get rid of all of them.

Someone stole the battery out of my riding mower before the hurricane, and I haven't been able to get a replacement. The store's shelves were still empty of the right size, a few days ago.

My electricity was out until the evening of the 19th. I lost the contents of the fridge and freezer, and it's still hit or miss to find what I'm supposed to eat.

Or maybe the shelters lied about being open? How can you know who is lying and who is telling the truth? Do we at least know that one *always* tells a lie and the other *always* tells the truth?

So all the people who were already there for a day had lied, as well? The Sheriff's department had sent buses out into the forest to pick up hundreds of people. Did the Sheriff lie, as well? How about all the county employees who were working at the shelters who were talking about how busy the two days had been so far. Were they all lying?

Don't be silly. It is /always/ the MSM's fault, even when it isn't. Conspiracy theories are much more fun and believable (and sellable) than cockup theories.

So who is involved in this massive conspiracy? Are you safe talking about it?

Or maybe they were given wrong information by the authorities? The question is whether it was an error or deliberate.

And why. The communists, putinists, tea party, socialists, and illuminati would all have different reasons to plant such alt facts.

Perhaps they just wanted some individuals to move as far away as possible. Or to conclude that next time they don't need to move away so that....

With so many clear possibilities, it simply can't be true that it was a simple cockup or miscommunication. Oh no. Just not possible.
